PERSON-CENTERED PSYCHOTHERAPY:
Person-centered psychotherapy recognizes
that personal transformation or healing occurs
in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance,
where a non-judgmental relationship
unfolds between client and therapist. In this
safe harbor, clients are able to explore the
difficult life issues which prevent them from
realizing their potential. The therapist serves
as a compassionate guide rather than an
all-knowing authoritarian, and gently assists
the client to discover deeper levels of
self-understanding. Mary Ann will use more
directive approaches when necessary to the
benefit of the client.
Mary Ann
uses her experience and insight, which contribute to
the dynamic, life-changing impact she has on her
clients. She also uses Imago relationship
skills as developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D.,
in which she takes the role of a coach. Mary Ann has
counseled with clients experiencing mild depression,
anxiety, stress, worry, grief/loss, binge-compulsive
eating, etc.
